is is a large sandbank with a head at a depth of 9 metres. It is located in the middle of a channel which divides the far end of Walea from Puah island, where the sea floor plummets over a thousand metres.
The guides of our resort have sub-divided Gegolan into sectors, since it is impossible to visit it all in a single dive.
When the currents are favourable encounters with gray sharks, silver tips sharks, mantas, eagle rays, shoal of jack fish, tunas and barracudas are almost guaranteed. There are also hammer head sharks, although only for a few months of the year.
The vertical walls covered with marvellous corals are extremely interesting, and there are grottos full of soft corals and black coral in which you will often encounter ginat groupers.
The dive ends on the head of the sandbank which is full of life and colour.
When there is a moderate current, macro enthusiasts will be able to admire pygmy sea horses, nudibranches and ribbon eels. |
