This map will allow you to explore the 200 square kilometres of sea which constitutes the protected area in Walea from close up. The area was established in 2003 after years of sheer effort to obtain legal recognition of the financial and personal effort we made.
Thanks to this effort, this part of the Toigan archipelago was saved from the scourge of illegal fishing using bombs and poison which unfortunately happens all over Asia. Thanks to the cooperation of the Indonesian maritime police, the programme for making the population (above all the new generations) aware of the situation and as to how they can protect their environment from pollution and try to anticipate problems which progress will cause to their ecosystem.
As in all properly managed protected areas the use of gloves is prohibited and your cooperation in checking your equipment during dives is indispensable, so as to be able to guarantee this incomparably unspoilt sea to continue prospering, as well as ensuring that in this location the human factor is a positive element which brings benefits to the ecosystem and not only destruction and pollution, as unfortunately happens in most tourist areas all over the world. |
