It’s a reef with a long shape and we dive at its edges which we reach by following beautiful coral bottoms located at a depth of circa 30 metres.
The ridge which points westwards has a succession of pinnacles, while the ridge to the east is more linear. What creates an impression is the fullness of the marine life and the colour of this reef: there are barrel sponges coated with multi-coloured crinoids, impressive gorgonians pointed towards the current, thriving sea whips with razor fish in them and elephant sponges and soft corals of all colours and sizes.
Schools of fusilier fish, ghost pipe fish, Walea pygmy sea horses (an indigenous species which has not yet been classified) and pygmy sea horses, an impressive variety of nudibranches, anemones in all kinds of colours with all species of clown fish, sometimes turtles and large cuttlefish.
It is much loved by photographers for the environment photos as well as macro photos. Thanks to the extraordinary beauty of the corals which reach one another in just a few metres in depth, as well as the presence of a lot of barrier reef fish, snorkellers often ask to visit this reef again. |
